Samsung has a new way for Galaxy users to play games. The device manufacturer has been working on getting into the gaming space for a couple years, and its latest venture is a free mobile gaming platform that’ll let you stream Android games through the cloud on a Galaxy device.
The program, which entered beta last year in the Gaming Hub, is now open to the public. At launch, 23 games will be available, including titles like Monopoly Go, Candy Crush Saga, and Honor of Kings.
My first thought when I saw this news was: What's the point? Downloading mobile games typically doesn’t put much strain on a device, unlike large AAA games on consoles or PCs. Plus, most people already have a mobile device for gaming, which is different from not having access to a gaming PC or console. However, there are a few potential benefits to this tech. If you're running low on storage space on your smartphone (a common issue with many modern phones lacking expandable storage), you can stream a game instead of downloading it. This becomes especially useful as games continue to grow in size.
Samsung views this service as its way of keeping up with streaming trends in other industries. The idea is simple: if you can stream your favorite TV shows instantly, why not do the same with games?
