Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence left fans worried after taking a vicious hit from Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair on Sunday. Lawrence immediately exhibited a "fencing response," where his fists clenched, a sign of a potential traumatic brain injury. He was carted off the field, and the team quickly ruled him out with a concussion.
However, Lawrence walked out of EverBank Stadium later, accompanied by his wife and smiling, according to Mark Long of the Associated Press.
Later that evening, Lawrence provided an update on social media. "Thank you to everyone who has reached out / been praying for me. I’m home and feeling better. Means a lot, thank you all," he wrote.
This marks Lawrence's second diagnosed concussion in the NFL and his third overall, with the first occurring in his freshman season at Clemson in 2018 against Wake Forest. He also had a concussion in Week 15 of the 2023 season against the Ravens.
Given the Jaguars' 2-10 record and lack of playoff contention, the team may opt to shut down Lawrence for the remainder of the season, even if he is cleared to return.
