Donald Trump is wrapping up the week with another round of Cabinet nominations on Friday.
The president-elect has chosen Scott Bessent, former chief investment officer of Soros Fund Management, to be the next Treasury Secretary. Trump stated that Bessent would play a key role in preserving the U.S. Dollar’s status as the "Reserve Currency of the World."
Trump also nominated Russell Vought, a contributor to Project 2025, as the director of the Office of Management and Budget, where he will assist the president with his policy agenda. Additionally, Oregon Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer has been tapped to lead the Department of Labor, Fox News medical contributor Dr. Janette Nesheiwat will serve as U.S. Surgeon General, and motivational speaker Scott Turner will head the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
On Thursday, Trump nominated former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as the nation’s Attorney General. Bondi, a longtime ally and former prosecutor, served on Trump’s Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission during his first term.
Bondi’s nomination replaces former Rep. Matt Gaetz, who withdrew after being named in a Department of Justice investigation into allegations of statutory rape involving a 17-year-old girl. Gaetz has denied the allegations and criticized the investigation as a distraction, announcing he will not return to Congress in January.
Scott Bessent, nominated as Treasury Secretary, was praised by Trump for his strong advocacy of the America First agenda. The 62-year-old Yale graduate and founder of Key Square Capital Management has been a proponent of deregulation, boosting domestic energy production, and tax cuts. Pending Senate approval, Bessent will advise Trump on financial, economic, and tax policies.
