President-Elect Trump Selects Brooke Rollins as Agriculture Secretary
President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Brooke Rollins as his pick for Agriculture Secretary, praising her extensive background in agriculture and leadership.
In a statement on Saturday, Trump highlighted Rollins' “commitment to supporting the American farmer, defending American food self-sufficiency, and revitalizing agriculture-dependent small towns across the country."
A proud graduate of Texas A&M University, Rollins holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Agriculture Development and a law degree with honors. Trump's announcement emphasized her roots in Glen Rose, Texas, a town deeply connected to agriculture, as well as her involvement with Future Farmers of America (FFA), 4-H, and her own family’s farming legacy. Rollins is also a dedicated mentor, guiding her four children in their show cattle careers.
“As our next Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke will lead the charge to protect American farmers, who are the backbone of our nation,” Trump said. “Congratulations, Brooke!”
Brooke Rollins’ Background
Rollins, who has strong ties to Texas agriculture, was considered a surprising choice for the position, with former Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) initially rumored to fill the role before Trump’s official announcement. Rollins was also previously speculated to be a candidate for White House chief of staff, a position ultimately awarded to longtime Trump ally Susie Wiles.
During the Trump administration, Rollins served as the director of the Office of American Innovation and as acting director of the Domestic Policy Council. Afterward, she co-founded the America First Policy Institute, a pro-Trump think tank.
If confirmed by the Senate, Rollins will lead the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), overseeing a 100,000-person agency with offices in every U.S. county. Her responsibilities will include managing programs related to farming, nutrition, forestry, food safety, rural development, and agricultural research.
