An atmospheric river brought strong winds to the Pacific Northwest on Tuesday night, leading to at least one death and two injuries from falling trees in Washington.
A woman in her 50s was killed in Lynwood when a tree fell onto a homeless encampment, according to South County Fire. In Puget Sound, two people were hospitalized after a tree collapsed onto a trailer. Firefighters worked for an hour to rescue one of the victims, Puget Sound Fire reported.
The storm knocked out power to approximately 650,000 customers in Washington, with the hardest-hit areas being Snohomish and King counties, including Seattle, according to PowerOutage.us.
The storm, fueled by a massive atmospheric river, is expected to intensify into a bomb cyclone as the pressure at its center could drop over 40 millibars within 24 hours. The system began affecting the region Tuesday afternoon and is forecast to persist through Friday."
