DeMarvion Overshown's Thanksgiving Heroics: A Game to Remember
Listing everything DeMarvion Overshown can't do on the football field might be easier than recounting all his strengths. For the Dallas Cowboys, he's proven capable of covering, stopping the run, blitzing with lightning speed, and everything in between.
On Thanksgiving, in a dominant win over the New York Giants, Overshown delivered a standout moment. With the scent of turkey in the air, he brought his own "stuffing" to the table with one of the season's most memorable plays.
He blitzed, obliterated Devin Singletary, tipped a pass from Drew Lock intended for Singletary, and, before the ball hit the ground, intercepted it. He then sprinted into the end zone for his first career pick-six.
"I was just playing football," Overshown reflected. "I knew that play was coming all week. I tipped the ball, and I was just praying it stayed up. I thought, 'Please let my speed be enough to reach it.' The emotions? I’m overjoyed. It’s a big win, and I’m proud of our team."
Overshown’s film study was crucial.
"When the running back let me loose, I knew something was up," he said. "When the ball was in the air, I thought, 'This is my play to make.' I kicked it into high gear, and then we were dancing in the end zone."
Praise from Peers
Overshown's impact hasn’t gone unnoticed.
"I told y'all from the beginning he was gonna be a dude," said All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons. "Before his rookie injury, I said he'd be an All-Pro, Pro Bowl player. Now he’s showing it."
Parsons, with a grin, added, "He reminds me of someone. Not No. 11 yet, but he’s Agent 0. He’s his own special talent. He’s gonna be felt on every play—a wildcat out there. I love playing next to him."
A Comeback Story
Overshown's journey is remarkable. After missing his rookie season with a torn ACL and battling a hip injury earlier this year, his rise is almost unprecedented.
"I'm very thankful," he shared. "Around this time last year, I was waiting to show my testimony. Now, I’m showing what God put in me—to inspire and play with joy."
For an East Texas kid who once dreamed of playing for the Cowboys, moments like this are surreal.
"In 2007, I was playing little league and dreaming big. This week, I thought about that seven-year-old and what he’d want to see today. It’s just joyful."
Looking Ahead
Could Overshown be headed for a Pro Bowl or All-Pro nod in his first full season? It's a real possibility. His stellar play positions him alongside Dallas linebacker greats like Micah Parsons and Leighton Vander Esch. As he continues to dominate, Overshown’s story is only beginning.
