Cowboys Dismiss Interest in Daniel Jones After Giants Release
Despite swirling rumors, the Dallas Cowboys have no plans to pursue former Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.
During a radio interview on San Antonio’s Sports Star, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones made it clear that the team is content with their current quarterback situation.
“No, I think we’re in good shape at our quarterback spot,” Jones stated. “We believe Cooper [Rush] gives us the best chance to win right now. We’re also eager to see more from Trey Lance. And, of course, we’ve made a long-term commitment to Dak [Prescott].”

Head coach Mike McCarthy echoed these sentiments, telling The Athletic that he’s focused on the current roster. “I’ve never been one to look at players just because they’ve been released, especially right before a game,” McCarthy said. “Daniel was a prospect I liked coming out of college, but we’re locked in on the players we have here.”
Jones’ release from the Giants came after he requested it, ending a six-season stint with the team despite being in the second year of a four-year, $160 million contract. The No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 draft leaves New York with mixed results and a disappointing 2-8 record this season.
The Cowboys and Giants are set to face off on Thanksgiving, sparking some fan speculation—and even humor—about Jones potentially joining Dallas. A brief appearance of Jones' name on the Cowboys’ website roster fueled the rumors but was quickly corrected.
For now, the Cowboys remain steadfast in their quarterback plan, focusing on Prescott, Rush, and Lance as they look ahead.
