Colorado Dentist James Craig, Accused of Poisoning Wife, Allegedly Plotted to Kill Detective from Jail: Court Filing

The Colorado dentist accused of killing his wife with poisoned protein shakes is now facing a new charge for allegedly plotting to murder a detective investigating her death.

While awaiting trial for murder, Dr. James Craig, 45, reportedly attempted to recruit a fellow inmate from Arapahoe County Jail to kill an Aurora police detective, according to a court filing reviewed by local News9.

Authorities have charged Craig with solicitation to commit first-degree murder, but have not disclosed which officer was the target. In a letter, Craig allegedly asked the inmate to plant fake suicide notes at his family home to make it seem as though his wife, Angela, had taken her own life. In exchange, Craig promised free dental work for the inmate’s mother.

The letter was returned to the jail due to an incomplete address.

Craig is also facing a charge of solicitation to commit first-degree perjury related to the letter. His lawyer resigned from the case, citing fundamental disagreements with the actions Craig was insisting upon.

Angela Craig died in May 2023 after ingesting a lethal combination of cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, the latter of which is commonly found in Visine, according to an autopsy report from the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office. James Craig used an office computer to research and purchase poisons online, including arsenic bought from Amazon weeks before Angela’s death, as per Aurora Police.

Craig has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder but has not yet entered a plea on the new charges, which have not been officially accepted by the court.
